Our client, a leader in the food and beverage industry, is seeking a Head of Finance to support their Ontario based team through their exciting growth strategy and effectively influence an integration of diverse cultures, drive financial results, and optimize cost benefits while reviewing the risk framework. This individual will be based in Toronto but will have the opportunity to connect with local and global teams.

Your new role
The Head of Finance Canada is part of the Canadian management team and reports to the GM Canada. You will provide support to the General Manager and Canadian leadership team in developing the local Growth strategy to ensure that Canada develops and strengthens its position in the Canadian beverage market and is responsible for all the financial issues and associated risks of the organization for our full operation in Canada.


You will be responsible for providing the GM with all necessary financial information, analyses, opportunities, and risks advice for both strategic and operational decision making and support with recommendations to enhance financial performance and P&L optimization including evaluating the financial impact on various business decisions.
Act as sparring partner for the management team and contribute to commercial discussions and decisions based on the agreed strategy, ensuring that economic data and analysis are an essential part of the discussion and the decisions taken.
Ensure financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and compliance with relevant regulations. Drive growth plan with a finance business partner-based approach and provide in-depth review of company performance against business plans, forecasts, and strategic objectives.
Based on RU Group assumptions, drive the annual budget process linked to timeframes and include quality input from the organization along the way
Continuously monitor budget execution and update forecasts/estimates. Cost controlling and analysis of possible negative deviations and propose remedies.
Rigorously monitor performance on a recurrent basis and proactively manage the Company’s profitability (Channels/Customers/Categories/products).
Ensure regulatory compliance with all financial, tax, customs and duty filings made to any governmental authorities in line with accounting principles and standards.
Monitor and manage the Company’s cash flows to ensure that the company has sufficient financial resources to achieve its strategic objectives as well as meet its short-term obligations.
Manage relationships with external providers of finance (statutory auditors, tax advisors, tax authorities, insurance companies) and General services (fleet management, building facilities, IT assets).
Lead and develop members in own organization.
Continuously assess processes, tools and competencies in own area of responsibility and upgrade/improve where appropriate to ensure an efficiently run organization, financially and output-wise.
Engage with stakeholders at all levels incl. external auditors.

What you'll need to succeed
The successful candidate will require the following:
10+ years of relevant experience in highly ranked FMCG companies (experience in beverage will be appreciated). M&A & integration experience is a plus.
CPA designation is required.
Some experience with Finance IT Integrations is a requirement
Proficiency in accounting principles, practices, and standards. This includes knowledge of Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
Proven track record of effectively executing strategy, assertive in communication and able to influence others.
Ability to manage the financial profitability for an organization hence to present financial information in a clear and concise manner is crucial.
Solid analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to resolve issues that arise in a timely manner.
Eager to support and create organizational change in an evolving environment and develop operational policies and procedures.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead, develop, engage, and motivate a finance team. This includes setting clear performance targets, make sure your team members know the strategy, providing guidance and mentorship, and not least fostering a collaborative work environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work in teams.

You have a can-do attitude and have no issues in doing the hand on tasks yourself.

Success criteria

Performance in the achievement of specific task related objectives as agreed with the GM.
Quickly get to grips with the RU business model and understand the strategic, commercial, and economic challenges and objectives.
Establish itself as a reliable sparring partner for both General Manager and management team as well as the organization.
