Position Overview
Korn Ferry is conducting a Finance Director search for our client in the mining industry that has producing assets and a downstream integrated battery materials project overseas, mining projects in Canada, and a strong growth pipeline with exploration across countries.
Reporting to the CFO based in Toronto, the Finance Director is responsible for overseeing the finance and accounting activities of the company while leading a team.
We are seeking to recruit an experienced and accomplished financial leader, with demonstrated success in the mining industry and able to effectively work in a highly collaborative and collegial, close-knit organization with strong values on sustainability.
The Finance Director will bring a track record of using financial and operational analysis to support mining operations. They will be a business partner and strategist, who can share strong analytical, quantitative, and conceptual insights to enhance an organization.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Management and Leadership:
Manage the implementation of and compliance with all accounting standards.
Responsible for the application of best practice to corporate reporting
Provide expert advice in the areas of budget analysis and financial review
Prepare and present monthly financial budgeting reports including monthly forecast vs. budget and weekly cash flow.
Build out and mature existing people, processes, and systems to align with the company’s growth strategy. This may include analysis of current state and making recommendations including a possible ERP implementation.
Direct cash management, treasury, budgeting, audit, tax, accounting, and long-range forecasting activities for the organization
Responsible for the supervision and people-management of departmental staff as per company standards.
Oversee talent management activities including the direct hire, development and manage accounting leaders, managers, and staff.
Financial Statements and Reporting:
Manage the quarterly consolidation of all subsidiaries within the Company
Coordinate the preparation of consolidated financial statements.
Manage and oversee corporate consolidating journal entries and consolidated tax and deferred tax provisions.
Manage the information flow during corporate monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting ensuring compliance with the applicable accounting standards, corporate timelines and general company requirements.
Establish and maintain a system of internal controls.
Manage the selection, implementation and maintenance of a corporate consolidation and reporting tool.
Responsible for the preparation of IFRS reporting metrics together with the relevant reconciliations to the financial statements.
Accounting Policies
Build and scale accounting processes and procedures to align with the company’s growth strategy.
Responsible for the development, deployment, and maintenance of a corporate reporting package.
Responsible for the development, deployment and maintenance of an accounting policy manual setting out the key accounting policies together with relevant guides and worked examples.
Budgeting, Forecasting and Corporate Reporting:
Administer the corporation’s monthly and quarterly close calendar.
Together with the CFO coordinate and prepare annual corporate budgets and forecasts.
Develop and deploy a robust monthly corporate report linking actuals to budget and forecast with meaningful narrative.
Direct cash management, treasury, budgeting, accounting, and long-range forecasting activities for the organization
Risk Management and Insurance
Take the lead on building up the Company’s Enterprise Risk Management program, assess and monitor the Company’s risks and implement appropriate risk mitigation strategies, including administration of the Company’s insurance program.
Governance and Internal Control
Responsible for the management and maintenance of internal controls over financial reporting ensuring process documentation is updated as and when necessary, key controls are identified, and regular internal testing is performed.
Maintain internal control deficiency tracking models ensuring gaps in internal controls are addressed in a timely manner.
External Audit and Taxation
Manage the external auditor relationship.
Prepare relevant memos and notes for the files to back up the Company on certain accounting positions.
Manage the company’s tax relationships and ensure timely compliance with all tax obligations.
Professional Experience & Qualifications
Post graduate degree in accounting science, with a CPA designation or similar.
A minimum of 8+ years’ experience, with 3-5 years’ experience in a senior financial accounting management role.
Systems design and deployment
Exposure to the mining / mineral processing or heavy industry would be advantageous.
