The Construction Director will play a crucial role in overseeing all construction activities for a significant water infrastructure project, including pipelines, pumping stations, and storage tanks in urban areas. This position requires expertise in construction management within the water infrastructure sector and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams effectively. The primary objective is to ensure timely project delivery while adhering to budget constraints and maintaining safety and quality standards throughout the construction process.
Responsibilities of the Construction Director include providing strategic oversight for all construction activities related to water infrastructure elements, developing and executing construction plans, schedules, and budgets, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and safety regulations, coordinating with various project teams for seamless integration of construction activities, managing site operations including contractor supervision and issue resolution, monitoring construction progress regularly, maintaining safety protocols and environmental regulations compliance, managing contracts by evaluating contractor performance and ensuring contractual compliance, conducting risk assessments for potential delays or issues, as well as fostering a collaborative work environment among team members.
The ideal candidate for this role should possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Construction Engineering (or related fields), along with over 15-20 years of experience in large-scale water infrastructure projects. Professional accreditation or chartered membership is preferred. Additionally, candidates should have proven experience in constructing water transmission pipelines, pumping stations, and storage tanks; strong leadership skills within a consultancy setting; excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities. Experience with Treated Sewage Effluent (TSE) systems as well as familiarity with local regulations and industry standards would be advantageous.
