Director, Mechanical Systems Engineering

Allye, a pioneering company in the smart energy storage systems industry, is seeking a Director of Mechanical Systems Engineering to join our dynamic team. Located in Acton, W3, Greater London, our innovative systems are reshaping battery design and distribution to make energy storage more affordable and accessible for all. As the mechanical system leader at Allye, you will be instrumental in developing onboard physical systems such as primary and secondary structures, control panels, HV and LV sub-systems, wiring harnesses, and heating/cooling systems.

In this role, you will take charge of designing and releasing multiple parts across our energy storage system while meeting program milestones in quality, cost-effectiveness, functionality, weight management, and timing. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering with significant experience working on electric vehicles including structures, cooling systems, and battery pack integration. You will be hands-on in developing new concepts and supporting system assembly on the production line.

Responsibilities include leading the design of mechanical systems and components, assessing strength through analyses, conducting feasibility assessments for design viability, resolving design issues using CAD tools, ensuring regulatory compliance through testing activities, collaborating with suppliers to enhance engineering designs' cost-efficiency and quality. Additionally providing technical guidance to technicians for system production while staying updated on industry standards and emerging technologies.

To qualify for this role you must possess an MEng degree in mechanical or automotive engineering with at least five years of experience in automotive or electric vehicles. Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD software is required alongside knowledge of materials manufacturing processes. An understanding of structural analysis principles along with fluid mechanics and heat transfer fundamentals is essential. Candidates should demonstrate excellent teamwork skills along with self-motivation to work proactively within minimal support environments.

• A minimum of five years’ experience in automotive and with electric vehicles
• Experience in structural analysis (stress, stiffness, fatigue, optimisation)
• Proficiency in simulation tool, analysing test data and correlating to CAE results
• MEng degree in mechanical, electrical or automotive engineering
• Excellent CAD skills (SolidWorks)
• Understanding fluid mechanics and heat transfer principles.
