Travelex, a leading foreign exchange specialist in the United Kingdom, is seeking a Director of Data Engineering to join their dynamic team. As an organization focused on simplifying customers' travel and money transfer experiences, Travelex is committed to innovation and customer-centricity. The ideal candidate will report to the Chief Technology Officer and be based in London with a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office.
The Director of Data Engineering will play a pivotal role in defining and executing Travelex's enterprise-wide data strategy. This transformative leader will be responsible for building and implementing a modern data lakehouse architecture, developing advanced analytics platforms, and translating complex data into actionable business intelligence across all regions. By driving the modernization of infrastructure and fostering a high-performing team, this individual will deliver predictive insights, real-time dashboards, and automated reporting solutions that enhance operational efficiency.
Key responsibilities include providing strategic leadership by defining enterprise-wide data strategies, leading the design of modern data architectures, driving data-driven decision-making across the organization, collaborating with product teams for enhanced development processes, and aligning data initiatives with business priorities. On the technical front, the Director will architect scalable data platforms supporting analytical use cases, define technical roadmaps for key technologies across ingestion, processing, storage, and analytics while ensuring compliance with DevSecOps practices.
Ideal candidates should possess at least 10 years of data leadership experience with expertise in building modern data platforms at scale. Proficiency in DevSecOps practices and familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS Redshift, DynamoDB, Kinesis are essential. Experience with modern data lakehouse architectures including tools like DBT or Airflow is required along with hands-on experience in designing scalable ETL/ELT pipelines for diverse data sources. A track record of leading digital transformation initiatives is crucial while financial services sector experience is beneficial but not mandatory.
