**Job Description: Associate Director of Engagement - Communications**

As the Associate Director of Engagement at The Carter Center's Communications department, you will play a vital role in supporting the development and execution of strategic communications plans to raise awareness about The Center, its spokespeople, and programs. Your responsibilities will include assisting with project management for the Engagement team’s initiatives, conducting research on media trends and target audiences to guide communication efforts effectively. Additionally, you will work towards achieving the team’s primary objectives of facilitating media relations and public speaking engagements.

You will collaborate closely with colleagues from various departments within The Carter Center such as Communications Office, Development Office, and program teams to achieve shared goals. Reporting directly to the Director of Engagement while also receiving guidance from the Vice President of Communications when necessary. This role involves domestic and international travel to implement publicity strategies effectively; thus completion of Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) for international travel support is required.

We are seeking candidates with a Bachelor's degree in public relations or journalism along with at least five years of experience in writing, editing or public relations. Ideal candidates should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills with a proven track record of successful media placements. Knowledge of international development issues and foreign language skills would be advantageous. Candidates should be adept at researching various media platforms, identifying target audiences, and crafting comprehensive communications plans efficiently.
