The Manufacturing Engineering Manager position at Virginia Transformer Corp is pivotal in overseeing process engineering, tooling, and production support activities within our transformer manufacturing operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in translating engineering designs into efficient manufacturing processes while driving improvements in productivity, quality, and cost-effectiveness. Leading a team of manufacturing engineers, the Manager will collaborate closely with design engineering, operations, maintenance, and quality departments to implement new methods, enhance existing workflows, and facilitate the introduction of new products into production.

Key responsibilities of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager include leading process engineering and optimization efforts such as designing manufacturing processes for transformer assembly, coil winding, tank fabrication, VPD drying, and final testing. The role also involves developing best practices for work instructions and implementing lean manufacturing initiatives to boost efficiency. Additionally, overseeing tooling development and equipment support activities as well as collaborating with design engineering on new product introductions are essential aspects of this position. The Manager will lead a team of engineers and technicians to foster a culture of problem-solving and continuous improvement while ensuring compliance with quality standards.

Ideal candidates for this role should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical Engineering or related field along with 8+ years of experience in manufacturing or process engineering within heavy manufacturing or electrical equipment environments. A minimum of 3 years in a leadership or managerial role is required. Experience with transformer manufacturing is preferred along with proficiency in CAD tools, ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle), lean manufacturing principles, root cause analysis techniques, and process improvement methodologies like Six Sigma or Kaizen. Strong leadership skills combined with effective communication abilities are essential for success in this position.
