**Role Overview:**
As the Director of Engineering, you will step into a leadership position within a small yet expanding engineering team of 10 members. In light of the current engineering lead transitioning into a CTO role, your responsibilities will include overseeing team growth, driving technical strategy, and ensuring scalable development practices. While primarily focused on leadership duties, approximately 10 percent of your time will involve hands-on work. The ideal candidate will possess experience in managing small teams and successfully scaling them into larger, high-performing organizations.

**Key Responsibilities:**
- Lead and mentor the growing engineering team while establishing best practices and fostering a collaborative culture.
- Define and execute technical strategies to support company expansion.
- Maintain a hands-on approach when necessary to guide development efforts.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams such as data science and product to develop scalable solutions.
- Develop and implement systems that enhance the company's genetic data platform.

**Qualifications:**
*Must-Have:*
- Demonstrated experience in an engineering leadership role at the director level.
- Strong background in Python development.
- Minimum of 8 years of industry experience, preferably within biotech, genomics, or related scientific fields.
- Proven track record of leading small engineering teams and scaling them as the company grows.

*Nice-to-Have:*
- Background in genetic testing or related industries.
- Experience collaborating across multiple organizations to bring diverse engineering perspectives.
- Familiarity with frontend technologies alongside backend development expertise.

**Benefits:**
In return for your contributions, we offer competitive compensation ranging from $200,000 to $230,000 in base salary along with equity participation. Additionally, we provide a hybrid work schedule that promotes work-life balance.
